Latest Trendy Asian & Korean Hairstyles For Men 2014

Finding The Right Style

Growing up as an Australian born Chinese kid, I've always had trouble finding the right style for my hair. When it comes to hair trends, Caucasian styles tend to be difficult to replicate simply because of different face types and hair textures.
However, it's not the end of the world. When life gives you lemons? Make some lemonade!
For Asian men, there are many options for us out there. Don't give in to the stereotypical Asian bowl cut, there are in fact lots more that we can achieve with our hair. But make sure that style fits you!

Short And Slick

Starting off with a more mature look, we have a cool hairstyle suited for a business meeting or a semi-formal party. The techniques for this style is quite simplistic, with the hardest part being the fringe/bangs. This style can be achieved using some strong wax applied backwards with finger (apposed to a comb) to create a natural look.

Dandy Medium Fringe Up

This style features thin sides and back. The crown of the hair is left fairly thick to create a dandy look. In this particular instance, the hair is permed around the crown to create the extra texture. The fringe/bangs are lifted up using wax to create more volume.

Two Block Cuts

This particular style has become a crowd favourite with young Asian men. I see many guys around my university with varies of this style. The Two Block Cut usually involves the sides and lower back being shaved or cut very short and thin, while leaving the crown of the hair at varied length.
What's great about the Two Block Cut is that you can be very flexible on how you want to style it. You could keep the fringe straight, up, or even curl it to create a more "hipster" look.
Short Two Block Cuts

Short hair is best styled with wax!

Medium Two Block Cuts

The Mohawk

A classic style that seems to have evolved with time. A seemingly punk-ish style has made its mark on Asian mainstream styles. The Two Block Cut seems to have taken its influence from the classic Mohawk.

Various Short Styles

I don't know the particular name of these styles, so I decided to group them up in one section. Short hairstyles are great for people don't want to spend a lot of time on their hair. The most simple styles can be achieved with some regular hair wax and hairspray.

The Curtain Fringe

This style seems to be getting quite a lot of attention lately. I first saw this hairstyle becoming popular in a TVXQ music video, where Changmin was sporting this interesting style. This style is not really my taste, it reminds me too much of Trunks horrible hairstyle from Dragon Ball Z. But everyone has their own opinions, and this style is definitely trendy.

Various Medium Styles

Much like before, Don't know the names of these styles. Medium length hair seems to be the go-to length for most guys out there. It's length has enough room for creativity, while being relatively easy to maintain. They include perms, and k-pop like styles.

Long Hairstyles

As someone who has had experience with long hair, they are a big hit or miss. They can either make someone look really good or really bad. Long hair requires high maintenance, and the correct styling the achieve its look.
The Anime Look
This is a modern spin on the classic straight Anime hair we're used to seeing. One side is kept straight using a hair straightener, while the rest of the hair is permed except the back. Perming the hair creates more texture and volume.

A hair straightener will be needed to create these styles!

The Pretty Boy Style
I don't know the official name for this style, but I first saw this type of hair on a Korean drama called Boys Over Flowers. In this drama, the main character(s) are called "pretty boys" so I've called it that ever since. Plus Kim Hyun Joong (one of the actors in that drama) is always seems to be rocking this hairstyle and he is known for being the pretty boy in Korea.
